Doctors in this group. How long where you in school? Did kids interfere? I want to have both but don't know if I can!!! Help!

I'm not a doc but I went to nursing school at a medical school and I work with lots and lots of docs at a teaching hospital. First you do pre-med and take your MCAT. Then apply for medical schools, do that for four years, take boards then poof you're a doctor! But it's not over, then you have to do residency. Our residents work 6-16s in their rotations which is MICU and CCU(medical and cardiac ICU). Residency varies depending on specialty. Ours are internal medicine so they do 3-4 years I think then move to fellow for a few years then to faculty and so on. I would imagine it would be difficult to have kids while in residency but the med students I was friends with had a better social life than I did lol actually my friends bf is a resident and his rule is no babies during residency!

Not sure if I'm the kind of doctor you are looking for but I have my Phd. I was in school for 10 years and then went back for a year to get certified in addictions specialty. I had my son and got married 8 months and a year after I graduated. It can be done! After my bachelors degree I worked for the government and they helped me get my masters is social work. I then worked as a social worker (still do) while getting my masters and phd. It's a long road but amazing in the end. I know work for cps and have my own practice. Good luck
