A friend of mine has a 3 month old daughter and she said her daughter has a "period" due to her breastfeeding? Is this true??? Seems like it shouldn't be!

I know my daughter had some bleeding and discharge for the first week after being born due to all the hormones but 3 months that seems strange to me.

Yes, It's Absolutely true and common even though it's weird!!
 Infant girls often get what looks like a little Period for the same reason that baby boys sometimes come out with little breasts (my son did. Felt like two marbles under his nipples. Fading now at 9w).  
Your baby is getting the adult, female hormones circulating through your body after birth. It's a pretty high dose for such little person.  The effects of this are temporary and will go away.

My daughter had MILK in one of her breasts for a few weeks after she was born due to hormones! It was so weird. I took her to the doctor because I was worried about a lump in her breast but nope it was just milk! So yes I think it is normal for babies to have odd things due to hormones from mom.

Yes it's true. They go through the same hormonal drop that we do. It's possible for newborns to have a "period" as well as lactate. My daughter bled for about four days and it was A LOT more than I had imagined. I was taught about it in my birth class.
