Good places to live

Okay so my boyfriend and I live around Tampa, FL. We have all our lives... It SUCKS. We're still looking to stay on the east coast of the U.S., but nowhere in Florida. Does anyone have suggestions of places we can look into? We've mostly been looking into North Carolina. I've been there a few times to several cities before. I am open to other suggestions though.
