What's the difference between taking care of your man and "mothering" your man, if any?

I don't tell my man what he can and can not do like a mother would

I view taking care of my SO as being a support. He does most of the work for his shit, and I pick up when he needs an extra hand...either in the form of a pep talk, actually physically helping him, or trying to be a comforting presence when I know things are hard.

Mothering, on the other hand, is more hands on or meddlesome. It's making decisions for him, or doing things for him that he either "can't" or won't do for himself. It takes some liberties and creates more of a dependent relationship. And its often one sided. Mothering is a superior position, where taking care of as a spouse or SO is a peer position.

That's how I see it.
