Midwives?

This is my second pregnancy and my husband and I are thinking about doing things different this time around. The doctors and nurses at the hospital were extremely rude to us and we just had a horrible experience, we are thinking of getting a doula/midwife. What are everyone's experiences?

I also had a horrible hospital experience with my first child. Sadly there are no midwives, doulas, or birthing centers in my area. I am thinking about driving to a different hospital for my delivery though

I had a midwife for my first and doing midwife again this time. They offer a great level of care!  My favourite part is that when baby is born they do house visits for the first 2 weeks - you can't appreciate how amazing that is yet but not having to get dressed and get your newborn out the door when you are trying to heal is enormous. Worth it just for that. As for the doula - no better investment in the world. They are there for YOU and your comfort. They'll offer guidance for your partner so that they can better support you - especially if this is your first your partner may really appreciate getting some ideas on how to help. My doula was like the older sister I never had and actually saved me from delivering unassisted in my bathtub. Do some interviews to find someone you click with and then do not hesitate to hire one!

Hi! I'm a birth doula and it's also my first time being pregnant! I believe moms can have wonderful experiences in both hospitals and at a birthing center/home birth with a midwife. As a birth doula I helped moms in hospitals as well as birthing centers. In my experience, I found that the midwives were extremely focused on the mom and were there the entire labor, while the doctors came in mainly to catch the baby. I've also heard many stories about rude hospital staff. It really just depends on where you go! I'm confident that there are friendly and wonderful ob/gyn's and midwives out there you just have to find the one that's best for you! I do recommend getting a doula though ☺️

I gave birth at a birth centre with a midwife and doula. It was amazing. I also didn't have a great experience at the hospital with my first. Definitely won't be giving birth at a hospital ever, unless it's something out of my control and I'd have to. This is my third pregnancy and i plan on doing water birth with my midwife again.
