Traditions/Family birthday parties.. How many do you invite?

I feel like birthday parties are getting out of control in my family.. Growing up, we always had extended family birthday parties until age 18. We would invite grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, and maybe have a separate party for "friends only." Well now, all my cousins are having kids, and my siblings and I are getting married and having kids, and we are expected to invite my cousins and all their kids. I love them all, but family parties for us could be up to 50 people ... Our house can barely host 20 comfortably. I'm curious what other people do.

We had 35 people for my sons 2nd birthday party.( Last month) I live in an apartment that would be crowded with 10 people, so we rent a space. Luckily we found some that only require a security deposit of $50-$100 and it gets refunded if you clean up and don't ruin anything. That's worked really well.

I honestly only invite the family I see and speak to very often not the ones I see only on special occasions. So ig it's just family and friends I see and hang out with the most.

I wish my family was like that. I feel lonely and forgotten,  but whatevs grew up and got used to it.
