Idk how to break up

I need help with a break up, long story short my ex and I broke up on good terms and he still means the world to me, my current doesn't treat me nearly as well as my ex does/did I want my ex back but idk how to break up with my current without feeling like a horrible person! My ex is so protective over me and i really don't want any drama like what do I do??? Because if I try and break up with my current he'll beg and plead with me not to leave him and send me long paragraphs about how he can't live without me 😕😕😕
