Prom ?? (read description)

Question

So I'm in my junior year and it's prom season. I'm indecisive as to whether I should go or not on my senior year because this is my first year here and I have like 2 friends in my grade besides my sister. I don't know if it'd be worth it (average cost would be $500 if I kept spending to minimum). I don't want to regret not going later on but I don't want to spend the night bored and waste that money for nothing. 
Putting it into perspective, I could go on a nice cruise or get a round trip plane ticket for somewhere nice. (You can't compare a trip someplace to prom but in terms of cost)

And usually people rent hotels and stay someplace for the weekend after prom but I wouldn't be able to do that.

My saying is, I'd rather regret going then not going. You don't have to buy an expensive dress. I bought one online from china for less than 200. Prom is as expensive as you make it

I went this year and last yeah and had a wonderful time at both!! You def don't have to spend that much, my dress was on sale for under $40, a friend did my hair and makeup, and I took my own car ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ have fun!

I was in the same situation my junior year. I went and after me and my two friends drive to IHOP at like 2am in prom dresses it was awesome to just listen to the radio and do something spontaneous  like eat pancakes in gowns. I say go, and plan something fun after. Allow yourself to have fun and not worry about the money ☺
