When do you become a mother?

I was discussing this with some friends bc Mother's Day just passed and there seemed to be some very strong opinions on both sides. I just wanted to know what others thought.

I am 39 weeks. I am a mother. I feed my baby, keep him warm and safe. I have already made sacrifices for this baby and will continue to do so. I've spent money and made life changes.

I have done all the same motherly duties as a women who has their baby already ... apart from wipe his bum.

I personally considered myself a mother when my first baby was born but I would never disagree with anyone that considers themselves a mother when they are pregnant I think it's sort of a personal choice option xx

I wasn't really planning on celebrating Mother's Day (I'm 25w) but I got a few well wishes and my sister sent me a gift which made me tear up a little bit. It was a nice surprise but I didn't feel like I was entitled to a celebration. I understand that motherhood is more than just pushing one out and am excited to learn and grow with my little girl through the years.

If you want to celebrate Mother's Day before the baby comes that's completely fine. There are different stages of motherhood and I've seen moms with older kids feel more entitled to Mother's Day but it really doesn't matter. I've seen people with pets celebrate Mother's Day lol I think it would be okay if a mom to be celebrated too

This is a very contentious topic. Everyone had a different opinion, and they will argue with you over your opinion of yourself. Just go with what you personally feel about yourself and your own views.

Idk if I felt like a mom right when I got pregnant, but definitely later down the road. I'm 33 weeks now and I feel like more of a mom than I did several weeks ago. I'd say that I'll feel even more like a mom when my son is born.
