Transvaginal Ultrasound, what to expect?

Not sure if this is the right group, but I have an appointment for June 5th to have a transvaginal ultrasound. This is my first pregnancy so I have no clue what to expect! By the time the appointment comes, I'll be almost 12wks (11wks 5ds). What can I expect to see or hear along with the procedure itself?

Also, I am a survivor of sexual abuse so if you have any tips on how to cope with that sort of thing as well that would be helpful!

You'll have to undress completely waist down (of course) they'll give you a sheet to cover with. You'll lay down on the edge of the bed with your feet in stirrups. Basically it's like a big wand and they'll stick it in with gel on it. It's not too bad, it's usually a tad uncomfortable for me during part of it but overall not horrible. 
I suggest wearing a liner cause it seems like no matter how well you try to clean off after there's still gel down there that will get all over your panties afterward. You should get to see the baby and hear the heartbeat, they checked my ovaries during this exam too and cervix to make sure all looked good

Wel im also a survivor and i have to say it definitely hurts and it will make you feel reminded but its no where near as bad as getting a papsmear but it helps if the person doing it is a woman

I've had the transvaginal ultrasound done a few times now. One thing that may help is inserting the probe yourself while the tech talks you through it.

My tech handed the wand to me to let me put it in before she took over. I would just let her know up front that you're a survivor, and would it be alright if you put it in yourself. Also, I had some light cramping after.

I have had two now and both times they went smoothly. I would not say it was painful just more uncomfortable. They only stick the camera probe thing in like 2-3 inches with lots of lube and the girl I had doing it was very careful even when she moved it around inside to get better angles. I was raped in college and I can see where it would remind you of that but honestly I didn't have any problems. The tech was professional, explained everything she was going to do and when she was going to do it. It really and I mean really helps to try to relax when they first stick it in, I didn't the first time and it was way easier when I did the second time. They ask you to undress from the waste down, and give you a paper blanket toncover yourself with kinda similar to what you get with a papsmear. They put the screen right by you so you can see your little baby and honestly I completely didn't care about anything once I saw our little munchkin pop up:) Just remember that the techs are professionals and this is their job and they are not there to be creepy or make you uncomfortable:)

If it's your first scan, they might tell you about transvaginal just in case you are earlier on than you think. But at 12 weeks, they will be able to see baby from an abdominal ultrasound. Don't worry too much about it, and speak to the person doing your scan and explain your anxieties. If any of these responses give you more anxiety, move away from them. Focus on the positive words. Ask for a women to make it more comfortable, it really doesnt hurt, the prob looks like a round dick honestly and just little pressure at first then youll see your baby and everything will melt away, he/she will look like a tiny human youll hear the heart rate. Its trully magical
