My fiancé's a crazy cat lady (he's a guy). And my best friend is my dog (woman's best friend). Sometimes people say we switched pets. Also dogs are always the dopey lovable ones while cats are these "mysterious" sexy creature (much like women according to men).

My husband loves cats. Never considered him the least bit feminine. In fact he's a pretty "manly" man

Nope. I've never heard of this. I have female friends that are dog and cat people. Neither is weird to me. I don't think that women are supposed to own cats or that cats are more feminine or vice versa.

I've recognized the pattern before but it only ever became evident to me when telling people I lived on a farm and had a horse or cows and pigs. People expected me to be showing goats or rabbits, and the FFA guys to be showing cows and horses. I then noticed the assumption that guys get dogs and girls get cats. If a guy wanted a cat he was for sure whipped by his gf.

Cats and dogs are similar but I wouldn't say it's this huge large scale issue, it is a funny coincidence though.
