Is your 1 year old anemic?

Our son's iron level was 9.9 at his one year check. The pediatrician put him on iron supplements for a month and then we went back for a check, it didn't improve very much. She raised the dose some and told us to come back in another month, and if it doesn't increase as much as it should he has to have other blood tests done because something is wrong. Has anyone else been through this with their toddler?

Do you see any symptoms of anemia? Such as tiredness, weakness, pale skin, low appetite etc.

Try foods that are rich in iron. Such as beans, tofu, dark green vegetables, lentils etc.

We are going through this! My sons check up is next week and if his numbers haven't improved they will up his dosage. I really hope they do. Poor kid has been through enough with allergies already.

DS got a low iron diagnosis when he turned one. I had gone to the pediatrician because DS had a terrible cough and fever that lasted for days. They did a blood test to make sure that it wasn't a bacterial infection and checked iron too because I was concerned about the slow weight gain.   DS gained less than a pound from 9-12 months. His iron was indeed low and he is currently on supplements. We will get iron levels rechecked next month.

My daughters level was the same, they weren't worried about it though. Said some babies who drink a lot of milk, or who don't eat meat can be anemic. She doesn't drink too much and does eat meat. So we'll go back in a few months and have it rechecked. I don't know what else causes it in babies.
