Umbilical cord smell?

My baby girl is 5 days old and her cord stump is really starting to smell bad. There's no pus or redness or anything and it doesn't seem to be causing her any discomfort, it just smells. The pediatrician at the hospital told me not to use alcohol and just to keep it dry which I have. Is a really bad smell normal or should I be concerned?

I had that happen with my 2nd daughter. I then used alcohol on a qtip to clean it up and stuff and it actually fell off the next day and smelled better meanwhile.  It helps to get any of the yucky stuff from under it.

If there's no puss then it's normal.  It's dead skin that's rotting.  It's going to stink.

My daughters is the same age and hers is doing the exact same thing! I had her at the pediatrician on Tuesday and he said it was completely normal 🤷‍♀️ it’s not red or oozing or anything, just stinks. From what I’ve been seeing it starts to smell right before it falls off, which hers looks like it’s about to do any minute. She keeps kicking it when I change her diaper and making it bleed just a tad, I swear she’s going to just kick it right off, it’s giving me anxiety 😂😂
