Is this thrush? My baby is on the nutramigen formula and I asked his pediatrician if it was. He said it's just from the formula but my nipples have been hurting (I'm trying to breastfeed) and my lactation consultant said this is thrush. How do I tell???

Thrush can not be wiped away & will appear on the inner cheeks & gums in patches. Have you tried taking a wet cloth and wiping your LO's tongue?

All my babies were formula fed and their tongue always looked like that. It's not thrush. Looks very similar though. I don't know if it's just formula that does that or if breast babies get it too, but it's nothing to worrt about.

My daughter is on Nutramigen and also gets a white tongue like that. My pediatrician hasn't said anything about thrush!

It can be milk, my little one got this and i thought it was thrush..  my midwife said thrush will be on the cheeks and back of the throat and baby will become fussy during feeding due to pain..

That's thrush for sure! My baby had it for 5 months. He saw 4 pediatricians st the same practice and they all said no it's milk.. it never went away. Finally we switched doctors and she gave us medicine for thrush (nyastayin didn't work because he had it for so long) and it vanished in a week! It would hurt my baby to eat for months :( the first doctors said it wasn't thrush because there were no patches on his gums/ cheeks and he got no rash. Finally it's gone

If it wipes off clean, probably milk. If it doesn't wipe off or wipes off with a raw or bloody surface underneath, it's thrush. Thrush would be painful and the baby may refuse to nurse (my son refused bottles and only wanted to be breastfed).

The pain I felt in my nipples when my 1st got thrush was like sharp sudden twinges and they were deep, not on the surface.
