HELP, FAIR FISHIE?!

Question

I won myself a goldfish at a carnival. I was super unprepared. So we're keeping him in a large 1 gallon mason jar. I feel really bad but I don't have the money to buy a huge tank? And I have no space in my apartment for a huge tub or anything. I know I made a mistake now. But I'm about to go to the store and buy food, and water conditioner. How long will he live😰😰😰😰

He doesn't need a huge tank, just something big enough for him to swim around in all directions comfortably. I had lots of carnival fish when I was younger, we kept them in a ~1.5 gal fish bowl (2 small fish) and they seemed happy in there. A 2 gallon tank would be perfect, then you can get a filter for it so you won't have to clean it as much and he'll have plenty of room. Keep in mind you should have the tank set up and running (water conditioner, etc.) for a while before putting him in. My fish lived for a couple years in the bowl. The ones we had before that were in a 5 gallon tank I believe (had several in there) and a few lived for quite some time. We had to release one into a pond because he got so big (pet store we asked said he's probably a koi). If your fishy seems bored, consider getting him a friend! 😄

You don't need a huge tank. Get a nice glass bowl from your pet store. Ask them what kind of food, since you don't know.

Those fish don't normally last very long to begin with but i cant imagine it living very long in a mason jar.... fish need room to swim and thrive. As well as a filter to keep the tank clean.

Lol this post is so cute. You don't really need a tank but if you can find a large bowl at the pet store that'll work. It's gonna need more room to swim around. Goldfish are a little different. They don't really need much I believe.

Well those fish don't tend to last long anyway, but my neighbor had one that lived for 7 years. I think one gallon is fine for right now. Im not sure if you live by a pet smart or not, but they sometimes sell used tanks for cheaper. I bought a 2.5 gallon for $15.
