My bf of a year and a half and I broke up. We're gonna try to be friends. Do you think he's still gonna care about me in a few months? We might try us again when he's ready for a gf. How will I know he's ready? How will I know if the timing is right for us? What if he doesn't love me then

Don't obsess too much about that. Maybe he meant it at the time but maybe it's more to keep you around just in case. So your own thing for a while, don't think about getting back together. If it's meant to be, it will be, but live your life for now

If it's not meant to be it's not meant to be, you can't force it. Don't let somebody just put you on a shelf to pick you up later when they want to though. That's not fair.
