Is it safe to have a best friend of opposite gender while in a relationship?

Is it okay for a guy to have a female bestfriend while in a relationship or for a girl to have a male bestfriend while in a relationship? What are your opinions?

One of my SOs best friends is a girl. I didn't have a problem with it because she's married. But I now do because of the kind of person I learned that she is..and my so and her dated when they were teenagers and the things she says and does has his whole family me included thinking that she's totally in love with him, and hates on me so that I'll leave so he will be single...and she told him in front of me she wants him single forever.  So yes I do have a problem that his "bestie" is a girl. But all of his guy friends are awesome!

My best friend is a guy. It is true every single one of his girlfriends have disliked me which sucks but for him he looks at it as they are too insecure so he leaves them. I'm like his test for jealousy.( he hates jealous women) we have been friends for over 10 years and we have never done anything. I couldn't even look at him that way.

I think people are way too insecure in relationships if it is such an issue to have friends of any gender. I've always had guy & girl friends just as well as my husband has. It doesn't cause problems in our relationship. I have two guys I talk to regularly and are my best friends. They even became friends with my husband and are so glad I found someone who truly makes me happy. My husband loves that I have friends whether a guy or girl who truly care about me an don't try to get anything out of it but pure friendship.

I have a good friend I've known since highschool and we still communicate from time to time. My fiancé knows him and is fine with it. I don't think there's anything wrong with it.
