Baby girl came 2 weeks early! And with quite a bang!
I started off the morning having to take our dog to the vet after she hurt her leg the night before and wouldn't put any weight on it. After leaving her for x-rays I left for the doctor's office. I had my first check with my OB, I was 37w 4d. I was ready for the app, because I felt like I was leaking fluid for the past 2 days, but was unsure. He checked my blood pressure and it was high for the first time my entire pregnancy. He tested for amnitotic fluid and it came back negative, and I was only 1cm dialted! He gave me test strips to take home anyway and told us to come back to the hospital ASAP if they turned blue. I headed home to pick up our dog and finish and long list of pre-baby tasks (install carseat, call pediatricians, finish laundry, clean house etc! It was my first week on maternity leave and only tuesday!). My husband headed back to work. After picking up my dog and finding out she would need ACL repair surgery, further stressing out my husband (this dog is his first baby!), I made it home to check the test paper. Sure enough it was blue! I called my husband and let him know we had to go back. He was all the way across town and would take over an hour to get to me and another hour in traffic to the hospital. So I grabbed my hospital bag and drove myself! He luckily met me there shortly after I arrived. I was taken to triage and blood pressure was again very high! They tested for amnitioc fluid and it came back negative. I was beginning to get relieved again thinking we would get to go home and not have our baby just yet. They came in with ultrasound and saw that fluid levels were very low. The nurse went to throw away the test and saw it had turned positve for fluid! They thought my water had broke a coupke days ago and there was barely enough fluid left to get a positve test! I was being admitted and going to be induced!
I was settled into the room and allowed to have dinner, as they wouldn't start petocin until the morning. They placed the cervidil around 8pm. Shortly after my OB shows up and tells ne I have preaclpampsia! They were so concerned about how quickly my blood pressure had increased and were worried about seizures. He said I had to get magnesium by IV and aplogized multiple times. I was unsure why he was so apologetic until they began the meds! You instantly feel like you have the flu! I was hot, nauseous and so lethargic. 15min after getting it I lost the dinner I was allowed to eat. I threw up several times that night and contractions started coming, so much for sleep!
The next morning they began petocin and things moved quickly! I was encouraged to get an epidural not long after, they were worried the pain and crappy feeling from the magnesium would raise my blood pressure more and that I would be too worn out to push. I was so glad I got the epidural! I progressed quickly! My family came around 1 and said Hi. Not even an hour later I was 7cm. OB showed up around 3 and I was 8cm. He said he would be back in an hour or so to check me again. I kept telling my nurse I knew her head was way down as the pressure became very intense. At 3:45 she finally checked me and I was 9cm! My doctor was paged and my family came in to see me again before I delivered. They told me after how tired and sick I looked and were so suprised I was able to even push her out! My nurse prepped the room and got me ready for practice pushes right as my OB showed up around 4:20. He got my started practice pushing and decided quickly they weren't going to be for practice! They got the room ready just in time for me to start pushing her out! After 11 min of pushing our baby girl was born! 6lb 4oz and 19.5 inches long! She was perfect! Began rooting right after being placed on my chest! It was a long night after she was born, recovering from the delivery and continuing to have complications from the preaclpampsia. We finally made it home on Friday and are doing well! Madilyn got a clean bill of health and is eating and sleeping so well! It was a long road for her to get here, but she was so worth it!
