In a small town a law has passed where the Parents of a child that is accused of bullying will receive a warning and a 90-day probationary term in which to change their child’s behavior. If they do not, the parent will receive a $366 fine.
Do you agree with this law?

This won't work because as much as the parents instruct, encourage, discipline, etc. they can't control the child's behavior. The child will do what the child wants to do.

Additionally, when money is involved like this, they would need to prove who the bully is. Often times when students are ganged up on and stand up for themselves, they are thought to be the bully when they are really the victim.

Instead of fining the parents they should help the parents with paying for a child's counseling if it's that out of control. This just sounds ridiculous. I hate that people think controlling a kid is that easy. It's not.

Idk it's complicated. I believe it's true that most kids who are bullies have issues at home whether it be unsupportive or unloving family, poverty, absent parents, abuse, etc so requiring a possibly shitty parent to correct their child's behavior seems like a fruitless endeavor. And the fine is just gonna contribute to financial issues at home if there are any and possibly even abuse as the parents would then resent their child for the expense. I think the school should implement a program like group therapy, training, and detention all rolled in one and the kid leaves class just like kids leave for speech class or a remedial reading group or a medical need.

You can't force kids to change their behaviour. Often parents don't know there kids are bullying others. It's pointless to try to punish parents for their kids mistakes

How about we make it to where parents can discipline their children the way they see fit without fear of prosecution of it. This law is great in addition to a little spanking here and there.

I feel like there are a lot of factors that can play into the behavior of a child. A parent can have a big impact on it, but a kid could just have behavior problems or generally just be a garbage human being.

Punish the child, not the parent. This will only make that child think that all of their mistakes will fall under their parents responsibility and not their own. They won't take accountability for anything they do.

Yes. An 8 year old just killed herself because of bullying. Eight years old. That was someone's daughter, someone friend, someone's loved one and now she is gone because of some little assholes who don't respect others.
