CVS test... Are you opting in or out?

So reading about the CVS test done at the end of the first trimester is really freaking me out ya'll. so I need some feedback! Yes or no?? If you have had it done... What was it like and were there complications? It doesn't sound necessary to me!

I'm opting out simply bc it's not worth it to me! I will love my baby no matter what! The possibility of a false positive would cause unneeded stress not to mention it can cause a miscarriage!!! So not happening here!

I'm not doing any testing except what is necessary to make sure I have a healthy pregnancy. Knowing anything else will only make me stress and worry and it won't change anything so why cause the worry?

I have decided to opt out. Before getting pregnant I thought we could just keep it quiet, do the test and abort if needed. But we're trying for a year. I spent some time this summer with our nephew wih Down's. My other friend had her baby with a different trisomy and an acquaintance was brave enough to to tell me they decided to abort.

Of course there is what is practical and then there is what is in your heart. I waited to see that heartbeat and I thought I wasn't going to make it to the ultrasound I was so stressed. I could not imagine waiting for results that aren't even definite. We do know of people who received very high likelihoods of having Down's on the NT and blood and she came out with all the same chromosomes as me.

Bottom line: there are many definitions of "right" in this scenario. You just have to figure out what's right for you.

They are doing an ultrasound & blood test between 11-14 weeks for me. They say it's less harmful & has less risk...

I'm getting NIPT, which is a blood test that is supposed to be better at identifying the issues that they would be looking for in CVS testing than the screen.  It's my understanding that I would only do the diagnostic tests (CVS or amnio) is the NIPT came back with an alarming result. I'm able to do NIPT because of my age,  my insurer doesn't offer it to women who will be younger than 35 when they give birth.  If NIPT is am option for you, I'd recommend it.

I will be doing the nuchal translucency test with blood work. It  is done via sonogram and no complications for me or my baby. Look into it. I think the cvs testing is a little risky with performing and amniocentesis which can cause miscarriage

And please comment! I'm sure I'm not the only one struggling with this decision. I'm not saying I don't trust my doctor but I've read the complications that can occur! It is scary and either way I'm keeping this sweet thing, Down syndrome or not! Is it worth being one of the statistics just the know something earlier? I get some complications can be helped while they are still in the womb but is that risking my child having limb problems or even a miscarriage and losing them altogether?

I did it when I had my daughter hurt like hell then you have to be on bed rest for I think two days . Then you gave to wait two weeks for the result which is the hard part I really don't want to have to do it again but if I have to I will I guess
