How do you explain to hairdressers?

Im getting a haircut tomorrow and I usually try to find a photo of what I want to show them as I worry I wont explain it correctly as I dont know many proper terms. Wondering what everyone else does?

I'm a professional hairstylist and let me tell you pictures are the way to go. Even if it isn't exact bring in a couple and tell them what you like/don't like and they should ask questions from there. It makes it way easier to be on the same page instead of guessing at it from both sides and you paying for something you aren't happy with. And by all means if there is something that doesn't look exactly the way you like it feel free to ask them questions (just be polite, it's hard to take criticism sometimes when it's your personal work) but we don't know to fix something if you don't say it so bring pictures and be polite and honest.
