Nipple confusion??

Question

Has anyone who breast fes their babys gave them pacifiersand thwy had nipple confusion to where they wouldn't latch to the breast anymore? Im scared if i give my daughter a pacifier ahe wont breast feed anymore please help

I was so nervous about this as well since everyone DRILLED it into my head not to give the baby anything but the breast for at least three weeks. Our first few nights home were the worst. He wasn't latching well and was up every hour. I finally made my OWN decision and gave him a pacifier in between feedings for comfort. He loves it and I have had no issues with nipple confusion. I breast feed, pump and bottle feed breast milk, and on occasion supplement formula. I have no problems getting him to latch to feed. Like they say, every baby is different and I'm learning to trust my instincts as a mom. Everyone has an opinion but it's your baby. His own pediatrician has told me the same thing. Go with what you as a mother feel is right. Life's so much more enjoyable when I'm not trying to adhere to all the strict standards everyone is pushing on us as parents. Good luck 😊

I gave my newborn a pacifier and bottle only like a day or two after birth since I was having issues with breastfeeding that I was working on.. Now a week out and I'm breastfeeding fine but still give him a pacifier for comfort. He actually prefers the breast over the pacifier but takes either no problem.

My LO has had 3 diffferent types of bottles (with pumped milk and formula), pacifier, breast and breast with shield because of complications that sent me back to the hospital. Little dude is a champ and takes basically anything... all this and he is only 12 days old! I try to limit the pacifier and bought the aventi that is specifically for 0-3 months. Doesn't seem to confuse him.m but each baby is different.

My baby was a perfect latcher after she was born we gave her a pacifier almost immediately after she was born because she has sores on her arms from sucking on them when I was pregnant so that her arms could heal now 3 weeks later she occasionally has trouble latching but if I'm patient she latches eventually

I had given my daughter a pacifier right away and because she was jaundiced and not latching, we were feeding her breast milk by a syringe for the first few days of her life. The lactation consultant told me to have her suck on my pinky and then slowly squeeze the syringe out into the side of her mouth.   Needless to say, we continued to have latching problems for a week. I went on a pacifier/pinky ban for 2 weeks and now at 3 weeks old we're reintroducing the pacifier with no problems.

My son doesn't get nipple confusion. He gets boob, soothie pacifier (his favorite), and bottle (which has different nipples). He's 3weeks and has been getting pacifier since day 2 and bottle since around week 1 😄 I know all babies are different and what works for him, probably won't work for you or someone else. We had issues with breast pumps and that's why bottle got introduced around week 1.

I tried pumping then didn't up having anything left for the next 2 feedings so had to use a bottle for what I pumped and a paci to helo soothe her. It actually improved her latch because she had to take the entire nipple into her mouth. We now do 1 bottle feed during day and 1 at night. Use the paci just enough tk soothe her then take it out.

If you get one of the pacifiers with the holes in the back they won't get confused. It's like the ones they used to have a the hospital. The big blue ones. I use one now and I'm breast breastfeeding. But sometimes breastfed babies usually don't like pacifiers much.
