Should parents who did not pass high school get optional free parenting class?

My friend was recently called in to our local public health unit because she was registered as pregnant or something. They called her in because she dropped out in 9th  grade and they wanted to make sure she could care for a baby and had given her the option of a free parenting class. Do you think this is a good idea?

I think all parents should have this not just drop-outs. Childcare 101 isn't excatly on schools curriculum.

It might not be everywhere but my hospital DOES offer free classes.. parenting, breastfeeding, birthing, all of that. Which I will be taking advantage of. Also for first time mothers they offer a visiting nurse for the first 2 years of your childs life for free.

None of my degrees helped me with parenting.... I would have liked a free parenting class!

This is sort of thing that should be available for everyone.

However, I don't see an issue with reaching out to those that fall into higher risk groups. Especially if funds/seating etc. are limited.

High school definitely didn't teach me anything about taking care of myself let alone another human being. So I don't understand why someone that didn't go to high school would need a parenting class purely for that reason. Everyone could probably benefit from one.

It's optional,  it would be good to offer it to all expectant mothers and fathers

I don't think it hurts, but nothing I did in high school has impacted my ability to be a parent imo, so I think not graduating high school is sort of a strange threshold.
