How do I nicely tell my boyfriend to stop calling me pet names?

I'm not big on pet names and it's starting to really annoy me. When my boyfriend and I first started dating 9 months ago we used to call each other "babe" ironically every once in a while. But somehow he turned it into a serious pet name for me, to the point where I don't even remember the last time he called me by my actual name. He always just calls me babe, baby, sweetie, hunny, hun, etc. In some situations I think it's fine and enjoy it but when we're out in public, for example, and he blurts out "Baaaaaaabe can we go here" it just makes my skin crawl. I really just want to be called by my name, it makes me uncomfortable around friends and family.

I've tried to bring it up nicely a few times but I don't think he's really getting it. I love him a lot so I don't wanna hurt his feelings cause he's quiet sensitive. I also don't want him to flat out stop calling me babe, I'd just like it in moderation (not 50 times a day). How can I go about this without being the bad guy?

Is it weird that I don't like pet names? Does anyone else feel the same? At most I'll call him boo boo or baby every once in a while, but I even have a hard time getting those out of my mouth and sounding sincere. I think it's cause growing up I never heard my parents call each other pet names.

I'm the complete opposite! We've been together for almost 5 years and if he calls me by my name I'm like "wait... what? What's wrong?" Because my name is Babe or baby regardless of where we are! 😂 and it's the same way for him too! It's so weird being called by our actual names by eachother now!

I've been with my bf for 2 years now and he only calls me by my first name when he's introducing me to someone. Otherwise it's always "babe" it's doesn't bother me but Ik when we are hanging out with other ppl they find it odd that he never says my name.

I think you are being a bit weird about it. You don't like it, that's fine. Tell him, I can't imagine this being a feelings hurt situation. That's like saying I don't like broccoli, but whenever my BF makes dinner he makes broccoli because he thinks I like it. I don't want to hurt his feelings by saying I don't like broccoli. Personally I wouldn't want a SO to not tell me I was doing something that made their skin crawl, especially something I could very easily not do.

We only call each other our real names if it's serious. Otherwise, we both call each other boobie....and sometimes get funny looks lol. But, if it's something you aren't comfortable with, you're going to have a serious talk about it. Just sit him down and explain your feelings. You don't have to give a specific reason as to why you prefer to be called your name, just that you do. It may just be in his nature to call you pet names, so keep in mind, it may take some time for him to adjust. After all, they are terms of endearment, which may be hard to stop.

I can't remember the last time my husband referred to me by my name. Just be honest with him. "I'm not trying to hurt your feelings or make you feel bad but I don't like being referred to as babe. Can you use my name please?"

Its the opposite for me I feel like he's mad at me if he says my name and vise versa but tell him it makes you uncomfortable in public and in front of your friends and family but you still want him to do it sometimes

This is odd to me, but everyone is different. If you don't like it put your foot down but know that he may not agree with it. Relationships are about compromise, so maybe if u really love him u will be willing to let it slide, and then again maybe not. I personally adore pet names. If my husband calls me by anything other than baby or babe, he's mad at me lol

I it is always werid in the beginning of a relationship, but my husband and I have been together for five years, and we never call each other by our names. His per name for me is chicken ;) I have never had a biyfiend that called me chicken as a pet name, but now I love it and we call our daughter lol chick chick. I love it, it's not a generic pet name. And that's what I love about it. But if you don't like post names just tell him. Communication is key in every aspect of a relationship.
