Anyone else's OB making them get a T-DAP shot?

My OB says I have to get a T-DAP shot at around 25weeks. I got one 2yrs ago so I'm not due for my booster. She is very addimit about it. I know it's best for my baby so she is protected by my immune system. I also have to get a MMR shot right after I give birth cuz my testing came back that I'm not immuned to rubella.

I got my Tdap less than two years ago and they are supposed to be reliable for at least 7 years.  Mine told me they still recommend it.. That's nice, but I'm not getting unnecessary vaccinations when I'm already covered.  Don't take that as me being an antivaxer, we are fully vaccinated in our house.  But I still don't like doing things unnecessary.

From my understanding of immunology, when you are vaccinated you develop IgM antibodies (overtime) and this is what gives you lasting immunity. These antibodies are then activated when infected and since they already recognize the antigen - you are set to fight off the infection. The problem is that IgM antibodies are too big and do not cross the placenta. You can't pass your lasting immunity from mother to baby.

This is where IgG antibodies come in. These are the ones that are present at initial infection. This little bit of immunity is what you are passing to your unborn child when you get revaccinated while pregnant. IgG antibodies are much smaller (than IgM) and they are able to cross the placenta.

I hope this is helpful. At least have a conversation with your provider to better understand how and why it may be beneficial.

It's because of the recent whooping cough outbreak, they want to give your baby the added immunities to it, because they don't get the immunization until at least 2 months.

I got mine a few weeks before I found out I was pregnant. I did so to help protect the newborn that I was watching for my nanny job. My husband will get his updated along with all of our parents closer to when our son is born. Better to be safe.

I'm definitely doing it! We live in the Pacific Northwest, and whooping cough is a serious problem. I am asking friends and family to get it too before they see the baby.

Legally he/she can't MAKE you get a shot.

I would get the tdap, it will help prevent your baby from getting pertussis (whooping cough) before they get their immunization. My mom didn't do that to me and I got it when I was 6weeks old and had to be hospitalized
