college.. how did you do it?

I'm 18, a mother of two. I'm looking to take college classes online. We make enough to support us but no room for school. So I'm wondering, how did you do it?

Are there any free online courses? Even if we got approved for financial aid it would probably still be too expensive. But I know nothing about it. Everyone in my family had their parents to pay for their colleges. I'm the first one that was left on my own. So I could use advice!

One thing to consider... college is the highest grossing for profit institution. That said, only 20% of jobs in the market actually require a degree or college experience. Nearly 70% of job seekers hold a degree or have college experience. The odds are against you from the get go. Not to mention the price of college is ever increasing at an exponential rate. Ask yourself, what do I really want to do with my career? Does it require a degree? Is the market saturated with a lot of candidates with the same degree looking for the same career? Is the degree that I am seeking worth the debt I will incur? How long will it take me to pay off the debt and is that realistic with the wages that I will make? You do not have to have a degree to make money. Now days, the best way to get the job you want is actually through people you know. Market yourself, get a network of people and ask for references. LinkedIn is a great start. I work in Human Resources and counsel people on this topic almost everyday. I see college grads come out of school with a $1600 per month school loan payment on a salary of only $2800 per month (after taxes and withholding's). They are worse off in the moment until that debt is paid off. Is it worth it?

If you really want it, you are going to need to apply for grants, scholarships and loans. Be smart about what degree you go into and find something that will pay off the loans after. College is an amazing experience but a lot of people try to follow a passion in college that doesn't help them get a decent job. Just really think about what you want out of life and make it happen.

You won't find any free college degrees from an accredited place. You can try for scholarships or get a loan.

With two kids you will get Financial aid. It should take care of the cost of school but I don't recommend using it if you don't have to. I have to many friends that have and are out of school but have so much to pay back. Try for A grant or scholarship. It work to get them but it's worth it in the long run. I have a been paying for my schooling but I'm going to a community college right now o most done try when I transfer I will be working on getting grants and scholarships

Are you single or married?? I'm pretty sure if you're single you'll qualify for a lot of loans that will make it almost free out of pocket until you're done with school and have to pay them back
