Sleep training?

My son is 6 months,  
he sleeps on me, 
I am with him 24/7 and babywear alot.
If i put him in bed he will cry nonstop various degrees if i go to him pick him up soothe him he will scream as soon as i start vending over to put him in the crib. He will cry for a long time, once or twice i tried to let him cio,  i ended up picking him up  because the process was like 2 hours and he wasnt even sleeping. He was tired and just wanted mommy.

How do i get him to self soothe?

CIO isn't for all children and it's not a magic tool.

Ferbers book is very educational if you read it. He recommends a controlled crying for babies when they are ready starting at 6 months time. Not all babies are ready at six months.

CIO also simply doesn't work for all kids. Know your child. Does crying help wind your child down? Or does crying wind your child up to the point of hysteria? If it's the later, than the technique isn't working.

We used the No Cry Sleep solution with our first and we had success. So much so that I was pretty damn proud of myself, mom of the year. Than I had my second child and he taught me patience and humility. I have three little boys now and the greatest thing that I have learned is that sleep is a milestone that each child reaches in their own time. We simply nudge and guide them there. All 3 of my kids slept alone through the night at different times. Research has shown us that babies who get what they need emotionally from their parents end up more independent adults. I find that very true with my three kids. They are super independent and confident children. Emotional needs aren't less important than physical ones.

For me, at 12 weeks or so I'd start a nighttime routine like the one mentioned in the No Cry Sleep solution. I had no issues though nursing to sleep or letting baby fall asleep on me and then placing in the crib. They grow out of this need so I don't push against it. They spend the first larger stretch of sleep in their crib alone and only come to bed when I nighttime nurse. As nursing during the night slows, so does cosleeping. By 9 months I try and have nursing sessions in their room if I can so I'm more independent in my own bed. For me, it worked wonderfully.

Trust who you are as a mother. Know your child. Encourage independence without breaking trust or denying emotional needs. The days seem long now but time flies by and you are looking at a 6 year old. It will all pass.

I put a little chair/stool next to the crib and sat where he could see me (in the dark though) and in a very soothing, low, repetitive boring, monotone voice occasionally said only three reassuring phrases: You're ok. It's time to go to sleep. Lay down.    I only said the words when his crying became intense. I'd occasionally pat his back but never pick him up. I stayed there until he fell asleep then left the room.. Now he understands and it is a quick process.   The key is not to pick him up again but soothe in other ways.

I'm going through the same thing with my 8 month old. He's more independent than he was, but we started sleep training by cio. The first couple of nights it took about 2 hours for him to fall asleep. I couldn't even go in bc of how bad he'd scream when I'd leave again. We're on night 4 now and it took him about 40 mins this time.
