Do you think that schools should use LGBT problems in their education? I mean, not always Tom and his wife went to buy 10 pineapples. Tom and his wife ate seven. How many do they have now? How about Tom and his husband. Or Ann and her wife. What do you think?

The simple answer is yes, absolutely. If you're going to use a husband and wife, you should use husband and husband or wife and wife. I think word problems in math class is a small battle in a bigger war for equality. You're worrying about one chocolate chip in a whole bowl of ingredients for the whole cookie.

Totally cool. And as a person of color, I think they could vary the names a bit too. No offense to Sarah and Sally and Tom and their spouses, but let's see what Hyung, Malia, and Ximena are up to with their families ☺️

I've  never heard word problems stating couples actually,  I've  always seen Tom, Tom and his damn pineapples.  Or sally and her sea shells.

I honestly don't notice unless they're obnoxious and racist like the ones about hair bundles and pregnancies and stuff like that. But they should include everyone. It resolves future conflicts anyway

Yes! That would be wonderful. I think it would make LGBT+ kids feel more included and comfortable. There are also some good comments from other people suggesting they use more names associated with POC. If a parent has a problem with it, they can homeschool or send their kid to a private school. Public school should absolutely be inclusive. 🏳️‍🌈 👨‍❤️‍👨 👩‍❤️‍👩 👩🏾‍⚕️👨🏼‍🎨👩🏽‍🎤

I don't think it matters too much as long as there's no unfairness towards the gay and lesbian kids.

Yes. I teach math and when I do problems like that I try to use a variety of names as well (not just "classic American". Oddly enough, I don't seem to use many problems that involve couples haha. Mostly just friends.

Personally that's one reason we homeschool,  no I don't think it should be allowed. As with many other things that are being taught to children that are crossing the line.
