When to take engagement photos?

We just engaged in the end on April but we've been working towards buying a house and intend to be in one by beginning on next year. We have both agreed we'd like to buy a house then focus on wedding so we can go back to our home after getting married. Meaning we don't want to start seriously planning our wedding for another 6-9 months, do we wait to take engagement photos or get them down now?

I wouldn't, I'd rather put the money towards the wedding photos and just take engagement pics yourself, well a friend take them with a good phone or camera.

I don't really think it's necessary. People mainly do them because they use them for the save the dates. So if you're not doing that, then whenever really.

We were engaged for almost 2 years before getting married. We got them done about a year (or maybe a little less) later to use as the save the dates. They came with our photographers package.

Our wedding photographer offered an engagement shoot as part of our package. It meant we could get to know them better and test out locations before the wedding day. We did it 3 months before the wedding... Although we were only engaged 7 months! We wouldn't have bothered with an engagement shoot if our photographers didn't offer it- weddings cost enough as it is 😊

Some photographers do them for "free" (as part of your package). My wedding was in October and we did our engagement photos in late May. It's really up to you when you do them. These days there's no set script, it's really whatever works best for your budget and schedule. Like other commenters have said, you don't even have to do them at all if you don't want.

I'd just have a friend or family memeber do a nice little photo shoot outside your new house.
