My Birth Story (It's long!)

Jess
Let's back track here a little! Back when I had my first prenatal appointment based off my LMP, my original due date was June 13th, 2017. My 12 weeks ultrasound showed the baby measuring 1 week behind, so they changed my due date to June 23rd. 2017.
Now! Saturday, June 10th my body woke me up, and I knew something wasn't right. My SO had finished having sex, I went to the bathroom to wipe and go to the bathroom. Here I am sitting on the toilet, when all of a sudden I hear a pop followed by my water breaking! It definitely was not urine because of the smell, that's for sure lol. Anyways, it didn't pour out a lot so I decided to stand up, bad idea! The second I stood up, more and more amnoic fluid came out. I called my SO into the bathroom and told him I'm pretty sure my water broke. I was surprisingly calm about it, didn't even have any contractions! I called the doctor line, and the nurse answered and put me through to the doctor. I explained what happened, and he said, "yep come on in since your water broke!" I told my SO to go to the parents, since they had their phones shut off for the night, and they were definitely knocked out, lol. Luckily they live right across the street, they had their air conditioning on, so they didn't hear him knocking. He tried knocking on the windows, the door, everything! So I told him to come back, I showered, we packed his diaper bag since that Sunday was the day we were going to fix up his nursery and get his diaper bag together since we just recently moved into our new place, but this little man decided he couldn't wait! That's what I get for procrastinating though 😒
Anyways, I put on a pad, and got dressed and we headed to the hospital. We got there around 5:50am, I buzzed into labor and delivery, and let them know the doctor told me to come in. By that time, the pad I had on was SOAKED, my water was definitely coming out more. They admitted me to a labor and delivery room right away since it was a slow night, and I didn't need to go to triage! Anyways the one nurse came in first and asked me questions (name, age, etc), then the physicians assistant came in about  since they were about to be in the middle of a shift change (doctors and nurses), and checked me with the speculum first to make sure my water had really ruptured. I knew it had because the second she took the speculum out, I felt another big gush 😂😮 she checked me for dilation and effacement as well, I was still only 1.5cm dilated and 50% effaced and baby boy was still at a -3 station, so no progress since my last doctors appointment the week before. She had told me I earned the "golden ticket to stay" since my water ruptured!
I got the gown on, then the two new nurses came in and gave me an IV, I filled out paperwork and got comfy because I knew it was going to be a VERY long day. I finally got ahold of my parents though around 7am, my dad finally turned his phone on! He thought I was lying because my supposed due date wasn't for another 2 weeks! He woke my mom up, she called and thought I was lying too, nope, lol. They made their way in as well and got to the hospital around 8am.
Even though my water was broken, no contractions started. They checked me for dilation again around 10am, and I was now 3cm dilated, 80% effaced, but still at a -3 station. I was progressing on my own though, which I was glad! Finally around 11:00am the contractions started. Since I'm a FTM, I didn't know what to expect. I was feeling the contractions very low, almost in my public area, and I definitely had back labor. They weren't bad at all, I could handle them. Come 1:00pm though, they got a little more intense. I finally asked for the epidural, and let me tell you, that's amazing! God bless all you natural momma's, I couldn't do it.  The anastesiologist came in, and explained to me what he was doing. He was very good, and made me feel comfortable being a FTM! The part that did hurt the most for me was the needle to numb you for the epidural. You have to be completely still, and I wanted to jerk my back whenever he stuck the needle in! Finally he got the epidural all set up, and they moniotored me , making sure my blood pressure didn't go down, which they said was common and they could just give me some medication through my IV if that were the case. So anyways, after the epidural and the catheter were put in, I tried getting some rest, since the night before I only had 3 hours of sleep! That didn't happen though, I was too nervous and excited, and had a million thoughts running through my head.
They finally come back again to check me for dilation around 2pm, and they asked if the other nurse who was learning how to check for dilation could check as well, I thought why the hell not, can't feel anything down there 😂💁🏼 anyways, I only progressed one more centimeter, making me 4cm dilated, still the same effacement and station. The doctor decided pitocin was the right way to go, since my water had ruptured earlier that morning, they didn't want an infection to occur. I was fine with that, I already had my epidural! It was amazing watching how high my contractions got on the paper, and me not feeling them! Baby boy's heart rate throughout the labor was AMAZING! He did not get distressed at all, which I'm so glad about.
They upped my pitiocin when they seen the baby wasn't distressed, and it was upped every hour. They gave me a button also to hit for more epidural if need be. I was calm and content all the way up until 10:40pm that night. I started feeling contractions in my back which I thought was weird because I had the epidural, and it was working! I also started having this pressure down in my pubic area that I just assumed were contractions. The physicians assistant came in and checked me, she was like, "so you ready to have a baby?!" My boyfriend jumped up, my mom jumped up excited as hell, here's me, "😮😮😮😮 no I'm scared!" Lmao. So it's starting to get real at this point. The two nurses come in, plus two more nurses, and physicians assistant comes in, and get everything set up. Now you're able to see yourself in the reflective light about the bed, and I didn't wanna see myself give birth, but my mind was changed. So here we go, I'm nervous as hell, basically crying, and everyone's excited (not saying I wasn't excited, I was, I was just so damn scared!) so my mom and boyfriend are on each side of me grabbing my legs, then the PA tells me wait for a contraction, and wait for it to build, and let me tell you, even with an epidural, that pressure to push in my lower area, lorddddddd 😩 I swear I was pushing so good, and his head was coming but he wasn't under my pubic bone yet. It got to the point where I was crying, and hyperventilating from being so scared! I screamed once too, didn't mean too though, lmao. Finally it got to the point where he was right there, so they called the doctor in, dropped the end of the bed, and I knew he was about to be here any second. I was thirsty as hell and hungry from not being able to eat anything but liquids. The pressure once his head was right there was so intense. I gave three more big pushes, and out came my son! I only pushed for 30 min, and being a FTM, the doctor said that's amazing. There was a reflective light above the bed, so I watched myself give birth, and touched his head when he was right there. I said I wouldn't but it was amazing. I know I shit on the table cause I could see that too 😂😂😂😂🤷🏼‍♀️ Finally after three more big pushes, my son made it into the world! I cried, my mom cried, my boyfriend cried, and my son cried 😂 I also watched them deliver the placenta as well, which was pretty cool!
But meet Malachi, born Sunday, June 11th, 2017 at 11:29pm, weighing 8lbs 2oz 20in long! He was born after the Pittsburgh Pens hockey team won the Stanley Cup, and let me tell you, while I was in between pushes everyone in the room was watching the game on the tv behind me 😂 also heard the whole maternity unit cheer when they scored! I had to get a few stitches inside on my right side, since I tore a little, but he was so worth it 😍😍😍😍😍
