Just wondering if the blood work will show Gender?

There are many different genetic blood test options. The first trimester and quad/penta screening tests will not tell you gender (some offices may order a gender test for you separately, not as a part of these options, but most do not). These are the recommended first screening options if your pregnancy is low risk (under age 35, normal ultrasounds, etc) so these will be billed to your insurance. The non-invasive prenatal testing (also called cell-free DNA) testing is the recommended first screening option for high risk (over 35, ultrasound finding, previous child with a chromosome condition) pregnancies so this will likely be billed to insurance. Some insurance companies will cover this for low risk patients, but many do not. In addition some testing labs will have a discounted price if your insurance does not cover the test. Ask your OB which lab they use and give them a call to see what your cost would look like. The NIPT test is looking for sex chromosome abnormalities (extra or missing sex chromosomes) in addition to Down syndrome, Trisomy 18 and Trisomy 13. NIPT is not simply a test just for fun to find out gender, but it is truely a powerful medical test, however it does have false positives and false negatives. There are gender tests that you can order for fun (they provide only gender and no medical information) called sneekpeak, I think, I've never used them or done any research on them, but patients of mine have mentioned them. Yes it will. It's a "package" deal at my OB. It includes genetic testing and what not. They have the ability to identify baby's sex via a blood sample from you.

Called Dr office gender test is not included because I'm under 35... so I would have to pay out of pocket. The medical assistant had no clue how much it cost or if they even do them there WTF! Got no answers

There's a blood test you can do at 9 weeks and it will tell the gender.
