Supplement with formula affects?

Question

I need to feed my baby. I have formula on hand for back up. No matter how often I try to feed baby to the breast or pump to bottle feed, my milk is so low that baby is not getting enough. Was wondering if I can switch back and forth? I want to give her enfamil formula until I can pump a few bottles for her. Will this switch affect her belly/digestion? I feel awful having to supplement with formula but I'm desperate to keep her fed.

I had a really hard time accepting I needed to supplement for a while until my milk came in.  I lost a lot of blood and got sick with an infection and caused my supply to be delayed.  I now still supplement 1-3 ounces a day.  I use similac supplementation formulated for breast feeding babies.  I haven't had any issues (fingers crossed) at the three week mark now.  So thankful my baby finally seems content now, and not cranky and hungry.

I had to supplement with formula in the beginning because it took about 4 days for my milk to come in and baby lost too much weight.  Nursing is going well now 6 weeks later but I still feed her formula at least one feeding a day for the convenience and to give myself a break.  At first she would make a face when I gave her formula but take it after a min or two.  I also use Enfamil and haven't had any issues

I have used formula to supplement when my milk supply was low. Know that my supply is steady I breastfeed and pump. I will still use formula to give myself a break. I would suggest talking with a lactation consultant about some of the issues you're having. At the end of the day your job as mom is to make sure your baby gets fed, one way or another. Good luck!
