Asking Out A Guy

So I really really like thus guy, and ive known him for a while. I met him at youth group and we're super close, like best friends. And he seems to like me back, but I'm not sure if he does? He also JUST graduated high school (im a junior), so by the time we start getting serious he'll be out if state in college. But I still really want to at least ask him out on a date. My problem is - I'm not sure how... We're both really awkward at talking about stuff.
