How to get rid of a ingrown toenail?

Epsom salt soaks help with pain & inflammation. So does witch hazel. A trick I learned is to slide a piece of dental floss between the nail & the skin where it's ingrown. That helps alleviate the pain long enough for it to grow out a little so you can trim it properly. Good luck! Those things hurt like a mother!

I work for a podiatrist,  you can try and cut it out yourself but likely chances you may miss a piece and that gives risk for infection.  Soaking will soften the area to allow better access and draw out any possible infection.

Getting a pedicure usually helps mine...just be warned, it hurts when they touch it! I pretty much constantly have one on one or the other big toe (often both) from tennis shoes. It's why I wear sandals year-round (thank goodness for the mild-ish winters we get in south Louisiana).

When they're really deep it's best to go to a podiatrist. But first I would spam it in warm water mixed with Epsom salt for 10 minutes or so. Then you can try and cut the nails away where the ingrown toenail resides to remove it. But again if it's too painful/deep a doctor may be needed. I get them all the time.

Mine on both big toes got so bad I had to have both toenails removed. Before though, I could get some relief from a Dr. Scholls ingrown toenail kit. You can get them at Walmart in the same spot where the bunion and corn remover things are in the pharmacy area.

See your doctor and get a pro's advice and recommendation. I had to on my left big toe my 8th grade year. It was so bad there was a puss sack on the side and I would have to pop it and soak for 10+ mins in Peroxide. But I had to go to a podiatrist (foot doctor) and he numbed my whole foot and cut out the whole side of my toenail and then did this shot of this chemical that prevents that part of the nail from growing back. Going to have to get my right toe done soon, bcz it's starting to get how that one was and I don't want to deal with it all over again.
