my doctor is refusing to test my hcg levels?

I went to the doctor Monday for urine and blood tests but I had to go to a lab Tuesday for the bloodwork since the doctors office couldn't find a vein. I went to pick up my bloodwork and noticed they didn't order the test for hcg so I called the office and they said they wouldn't do it because I knew when my last period was so there was no need. Is that normal? I thought it was routine to test hcg levels at the first appointment to make sure they're where they need to be. I won't get an ultrasound until at least early July and I wanted to see them for my own peace of mind.
