baby clothes??? what do you really need???

Okay, so I'm a FTM, 32 weeks along and have read/heard numerous opinions and got very confused. I'm having a boy and we're not on a tight budget but don't want to waste money as well. I'd just like to know what clothes and how many of each does a baby really need the first three months (since most are either "newborn"(which they grow out of quickly) or "0-3 months")? What I'm asking is how many onesies, pants, pjs(the one piece), mittens should I by to have enough, not too much and not to lack any? Also, what type of clothing did your newborn get the most wear out of?

Depends how often you'd like to do laundry. Blowouts and spit up can cause several outfit changes a day. I loved the zip up Jammie's when my daughter was NB they are faster than snaps. I'd say 7-10 of each thing. You can always send dad out for things if you feel you don't have enough.

I have 3 kids ages 5 and under. After lots of trial and error, we decided  keep ours in a long sleeve onesie and little cotton pants pretty much day and night (we keep our a/c pretty cool). We found it to be the easiest and most practical and comfortable. So with my 3rd daughter that's pretty much all we bought. Newborns I'd have 5-7 outfits on hand, and a little more as they get bigger. When they start eating solids, they'll get messier and will wear the clothes a little longer so I have a few more, plus I get them a couple of cute outfits for if we go out. Carters has kimono style onesies that are a little pricey, but great for newborns.

It just depends on how big your baby is. Most people I know their babies breeze straight through newborn sizes after a week or so. But my kiddos wore newborns for at least a month, and we had to get preemie sizes for the first week or two!

It'll depend on how big your baby is to determine if it'll need newborn and how many. 
I can say don't waste money on mittens, not all babies need them and then if you do you can just use a pair of the cute little baby socks you have, they work just the same.

When is your baby due? My fall babies got the most use out of one piece snap up outfits and onesies. My spring baby wore onesies for her first 6-7 months of life. And newborn clothes were sort of a waste. 2 babies fit in them, but not that long. 2 of my babies went right to 0-3 month clothes.

I'm a first timer too but so far the most helpful advice I got was to wash clothes as you go. So leave the tags on in case you overbought (or were over gifted) certain sizes. Your baby could be in newborn sizes for a few weeks, or could skip those sizes entirely.

My cousin is the one who told me this. She immediately washed all the clothes from her shower and what she bought and ended up having bags of clothes her daughter never even wore.
