Would you break a window for a pet locked in a car?

Where I live it is legal to break a car window if an animal is locked in the car during the summer with the windows up. Would you do it?

Only if it looked like it was in immediate peril (e.g. It was very hot and the pet was unresponsive/looked ill)

I'd rather call law enforcement. I don't feel comfortable breaking windows.

I would watch the pet and if it looked distressed then I'd call the police first. There are a lot of animals that could become aggressive if you break the windows and I spend enough time restraining and doing medical procedures on aggressive dogs. I don't need more bites and scratches. Is also illegal where I live- you're supposed to call law enforcement.

The owners might be back in 5min- maybe they ran into the store to grab something and will be back quickly. I'd also try going into a nearby store and asking around/having the car owner paged in a larger store, etc. If the animal starts to become very distressed and does look like it's in danger then yes I'd break a window and take care of the animal. But only after I'd done everything else possible first.

Yes. As long as if you knocked on the glass and it wasn't responding.

But if I ever leave my dog out in the car I'm in there for no longer than 2-5 minutes and the AC is on full blast right at her. And a sign attachedsaying something like

"Hi I'm posey!
My owner left me around (insert time I left), the AC is on, i have food and water and I'm jamming to my Spanish music. Please don't break my window as I'll run away"

It is legal to do so if the animal is in distress fuck yeah I will bust the window. You got a problem with it, then you shouldn't have been stupid enough to leave your animal in a hot locked car.

We actually have had 13 dogs die in hot cars as of late. This has prompted some stores to set up a penned off area for people to leave their dogs while they go shopping, so they aren't being left in hot cars.

No, but i'd call the cops. If it was for a child, I'd call the cops and then break the window. I don't even think it's legal for a civilian to do here, I think it HAS to be an officer.
