Getting a tattoo

So I've been wanting to have a tattoo for a while. I have a solid idea I'm sure of, the problem is that I'm 17 and don't even know how to tell my parents I want to get inked...
Anyone has an idea of how to present it to them. It's not like I want to have a huge design but a very minimal and small one..
