Felon for life

Co
I was addicted to hard drugs for 3 years of my life. (17, 18, 19). I'm now 23 and my 4 year sober date is coming up in May. I recently talked to a lawyer about having my felony expunged and found out that it isn't possible. It doesn't fall off in 7 years and I can't make it go away, which means I will be deprived of some American rights for my entire adult life. I can't vote, adopt children, and I will never be able to work in certain places or get student loans for school. I fully understand my consequences, and I did mess up,  but does anyone else think there should be an easier way to get it taken off? I've never even been to prison and it's hard explaining to people why I can't do certain things. I want to be able to provide for my family and have a decent career, but I'm finding it extremely difficult 😒
