Late ultrasounds harmful!??

Question

I've heard and read that ultrasounds can be very harmful for your baby. For example, a study by dr. Sarah Buckley MD done in 2009 states, that there are many "potential biological risks to the fetus from prenatal ultrasound."

Personally, I've always been very excited to get ultrasounds, as this is my first baby, and I want to see and hear the heart beat, see if the baby is measuring correctly ect. But is this really what is best for the baby?

Ladies: what do you think, are ultrasounds ok? Or should we try to stay away from them if possible??

If you're high risk, your doctor will order more ultrasounds than normal. I don't believe it's harmful. There's not enough sufficient evidence, and I know a ton of people who got extra ultrasounds and their babies were perfect.

I've had five and I'm 20 weeks lol my OB says that ultrasounds aren't harmful because it's just sound waves going through.

I don't think they're harmful in the way some articles have said, but I also don't believe in routine ultrasounds in the third trimester. Unless they're checking on something specific (I had a placenta condition at 20 that had to be rechecked at 32) there's really no need for them. Baby's growth can be assessed externally. The problem with late ultrasounds is that many doctors use them to try and bully women into early induction due to carrying a supposed "big baby." Which is not a valid medical reason for induction but that doesn't stop a lot of doctors from trying.

I've had two and I'm 8 weeks. My next one isn't until 20 weeks. I don't think there is much proof that they are harmful
