C.S = community service with acd
My daughter (never been in trouble before) who is 17 shoplifted (well tried to) about $100 in phone things. The cops said the judge will probably only give her an ACD and community service (which she doesn't mind because she likes to volunteer). I spoke to a lawyer and he said that's a probable outcome..so is that good? 
Should she hire a lawyer or use a public defender? 
We have no idea what to do. Even the lawyer said she seems really stressed and that's why it's so out of character of her. But to hire a lawyer it's $1500
Please help I have no idea what to do or have her do

Either way you need to let her learn from her mistakes if she thinks youll pay out the ass to help her out she might keep doing it. Because shes so young they will be lenient. Plus it's under $500 she wont get jail

She needs to learn From her mistakes,  if community service is the outcome. She also needs to know you can't always be there to help her and that she should have came to you first. If she wanted the stuff she should have asked, if you said no she should have asked how she could earned the money for it.

When I was about 16 I got caught shop liftinf about €80 worth of make-up. I was caught and put in a cell for several hours. My mum got called and she told them to leave me there a few hours to learn my lesson. I was due to go to Barcelona on a school trip. I was given 3 months community service and also my parents wouldnt allow me to go to Barcelona. I did not end up in Prison and neither do I hate my parents for punishing me... because I was on the wrong path with the wrong people /friends and to me it was a wake up call! I have not EVER robbed a thing since that day. But if my parents still allowed me to do whatever i wanted i would of though ohh well. So dont bother hiring a private one; she will more than likely get community sevice and get a bit of a scare. Xx

I'd teach her a lesson by letting the judge pick the harsher punishment so she will understand consequences. Going easy is not good when she's 17, unless you want her to end up a criminal
