How do I get my hubby to be open to a little roughness in bed?

I adore my husband and, to be clear, we have an amazing sex life. We're very sexually compatible and can't help but attack each other practically every day. That being said, I've recently become interested in him being a little rough with me. Nothing too harsh, but just some name calling, ass smacking, and maybe some very light choking. The thing is that he's just so damn sweet and tender. How can I encourage him and help him see that doing those things won't make me feel unloved? I feel like some light S&M would normally tap into a guys natural desires, no? Is he just being sensative for my sake?
