how do I stop my mom?

My mom keeps trying to give my almost 4 month old water whenever she watches him. She says it's to wash out the spit up taste in his mouth. I don't know how to stop her. She says he just loves it. I don't want him having water but she won't listen to me. I tell her the risks and she just brushes them off. How can I stop her from doing it?

Update*** I took my mom with me to one of my son's doctor appointments and the doctor explained why it's not a good idea to give water to such a young baby. She apologized to me for giving him water and will now listen to my wishes.

Tell her if she doesn't respect her wishes than she will not be able to be left alone with him.

I honestly wouldn't leave baby alone with her until baby is older unless you just have no other choice. Than you need to sit down with her and talk to her and tell her your the Mom  and you make the rules for you baby and she has to respect that or you will find someone else to watch baby.

My whole family knows not to give my son anything that I have not approved. My grandmother didn't care for my rules but she respected me enough to follow them because he is MY son. If someone didn't follow my rules they knew that I would stop trusting them to be around him until they could follow my wishes. I'm very protective over my son and for good reason. My grandma tried to give my son honey when he was 6 months old. I flipped and she never did that again. That is your child and you are the advocate for your baby. It's your job to protect that baby. Just put your foot down and if they don't like it then don't leave them alone with your kid.

Honestly if you can get someone else to watch your baby she will probably try to give him solid food soon too if she can't listen too you then she should be able to care for your baby

Ugh my mom does this too with my 2 month old. It was just way too common in that generation that now they think it's perfectly normal & okay

Tell her your going to ask the doctor to make sure it's ok for your little one to have water. Then just stay you called and ask and was told no water yet. He/she is still to young.

Tell her simply and plainly that this is your child and there are certain things you don't want happening and that the end of it. Ask her what would she do if something happened to the little one as a consequence of what she is doing. Hope it gets resolved x

I wouldn't let her watch the baby. I wouldn't even talk because from what I'm gathering you have spoken already and she still does it. I couldn't trust her after that. To me I would always wonder if she's going by my wishes or acting like she is to shut me up. You won't even know for sure and that would make me uneasy. You are your baby's advocate right now so stand up for them and be vocal and show her there are consequences for not doing as you wish with your baby.

Well it's confusing because those who use formula are giving water mixed in with formula.  Breastfeeding still gives water to baby from the Mom's body.
