Have you ever skipped your period months at a time but were not pregnant?

I have gone without my period for a maximum of 4 months before, and even though I hadn't had sex, I was worried somehow I may have been drugged/raped unknowingly. Thank God I was fine- but I'm wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else? And if anyone has some information on it.
