I bleed during sex..

So I hooked up with a friend for the first time and things were pretty rough afterwards he's got blood on his hands and penis. I'm a little freaked out about it. Was it just because things got too rough like he could of cut me inside or something? Or is there another reason this could happen? (My period was 2 weeks ago $ I didn't bleed past that night)
