Dating without a high school diploma?

So there's this guy who really likes me but I won't date him because he didn't graduate high school? Everyone around me is like "that's stupid. You shouldn't judge a man on his education.." I just don't know what I should do. And I've told the guy that I won't date him cause of that but he thinks that is stupid. I just need some insight

I wouldn't either. You can graduate no matter your intelligence. That's got to be due to laziness bc there are also ways even if you work all the time. Schools work with you unless you're unmotivated

I won't date a man that doesn't have a university degree (or is working on one). I personally, have a lot of university level education and am going further. I just wouldn't find someone who wasn't a fellow professional my equal in the sense that they likely don't have the same value on education, our financial situations would be very very different, etc. It just wouldn't work for me. So someone without a high school diploma would be a serious no. It's not a very difficult thing to get one, especially in today's world where teachers are no longer allowed to fail students. So I'd chalk it up to laziness which wouldn't work for me.

A lot of socio-economic problems prevented me from graduating, added on top of being in an abusive relationship (he punched me in the face outside of the school yard because a guy said bye to me). It wasn't because of laziness or stupidity on my part.

It all comes down to circumstance. I mean, what is his situation? Why didn't he finish? Does he have drive and dreams?My husband grew up in Mexico and his parents couldn't afford to send him to high school, so he started working at a very young age instead. When I met him he was finally finishing up his GED (at 24) while working a physically demanding job with long hours and studying music and English in his "free time." He has THE best work ethic I have ever seen in any other human. He has plans to go to college and I personally think he is going to have an amazing future. 
Personally, I have debilitating health issues that I developed in college, and man, getting through high school would have been near impossible if I'd had these problems then. I can't even fathom it. I managed to get through university but only by cutting down my hours until I was there about 3 days per week. When I started college, I was getting up at the crack of dawn to go to work, then going to school full time, and breaking my back doing school work while also maintaining a social life/working out/doing art-- so to have not even HALF of that same life was a huge adjustment. If I was younger, it would have been even harder.

So no, it doesn't necessarily make someone lazy and to me it seems a bit shallow and close-minded to disregard someone for that. There are circumstances that are sometimes out of a person's control. That's life, unfortunately.

That shouldn't matter, what matters is what he's doing now. Is he driven? Have a job, his own place? Or is he lazy, lives and his par bye and doesn't have a job. The past is the past and people can be successful without having graduated.

It amazes me how shallow people are. Really. 
So I suppose because my fiance dropped out at 10th grade i should have never dated him,🤔 but that also means i wouldnt have a 400k roof over my head, a new truck to drive, 3 horses as well 20 other animals, a $3000 ring on my finger, his love and understanding AND support in my own life choices. 
He owns his own business, but gee he must have gotten this far because he's unintelligent.

My only question would be, is he successful in life without his degree? As in, does he have a well-paying job that supports him (and potentially could help support a family)?

So what about a GED? In my opinion, me getting my GED so I could work and make money and move out was more important then going to school every single day and be around immature kids. Like I get it if he dropped out and has no inspiration or job. I feel kinda offended though by some of these comments, people can change. And yes I dropped out, but I can still go to college. I also have had very good paying jobs which I was able to move up in the company. If you graduated from Harvard I understand not wanting to be with him, but if all you did was stay in school and get a diploma yourself, maybe you should question who he is as a person and not judge him by his accomplishments.
