At what age do you think it is appropriate for a child to receive a cell phone?

I think a phone that just calls certain numbers is great in grade school. In middle school a phone with minutes or a limit to how much time spend on things. Then in high school just a normal phone.

My parents let me have a cell phone when I was able to pay for it myself. I'll probably take that route with my kids as well

I got a cell phone at 11 but it was because both my parents worked and they wanted to know I got home safe from school (1 mile walk). If it were my kid I'd make them wait until high school for sure unless it was absolutely necessary for them to have one

I believe it's when a parent allows a child to go out with friends.

Depends on a lot of situations. I'll probably get my son A cheap go phone at around 10 or 11, but he has health problems and special needs so I want him to be able to contact Me in case of emergency
