ultrasound end of 1st trimester

I am exactly 12 weeks pregnant today. My doctor's office called to ask some quick questions about genetic disorders before my appointment on this coming Tuesday. When I asked what all would be done at my appointment, I was told that I would have bloodwork, collect urine sample, Pap smear and heart Doppler. My question is, "Is it normal not to have an ultrasound by twelve weeks?" This is only my second appointment. My first appointment (4 weeks 6 days) consisted of confirming my pregnancy with a urine sample, only. I'm so upset! I don't even want to announce my pregnancy now because I feel I don't have any proof.
