Why do people start rumors online?
I've had this happen to me a LOT and can't for the life of my figure out why anyone would want to tarnish the reputation or business of someone they've never even met...
Why do people say one thing to my face and blatantly lie about me behind my back?
What could they possibly get out of it?

I do own a bed and breakfast which is listed on several websites. I offer the rooms free on Couchsurfing.com as long as there is not already a paid booking, in which case, I put them up on the couch.
It's not really a policy I hide so I don't understand the rage...or this man's expectation that I would just be like "sure, come on over! After this!
