Broken home?

A broken home can have a lot of different definitions. My boyfriend comes from one and his parents are still married. They love each other, but they don't talk to each other and don't support each other (basically because they don't communicate at all). They have seven kids who have suffered a lot their actions, financial situation, health, etc. Five of the kids were put in foster care at one point. I could go on and on about his family. It's a broken home in different ways.

Other family's have ones that are due to divorce, fighting, abuse, etc. To me a broken home is one where the kids suffer and don't feel safe and supported. It's also where the parents are necessarily happy in their own home and may suffer from abuse or serious fighting occurs. I guess to me a broken home is one where the family doesn't stick together and work together to be a family unit.

I picked broken home as fighting. A home can be broken with split parents yes, but l'd hope that the family is happier with seperated parents because then you wouldn't be stuck in one sole environment with constant fighting.

My idea of a broken home was my parents always fighting (step mom and dad) and my S/O and I use to fight like crazy, we fight maybe 2 times a year??? But argue like crazy. We have 2 children under the age of 3. I am trying so hard to like what he likes, be understanding and to find a way out of the argument by just agreeing. I am getting tired of it, my idea of growing up in a broken home now is both but more so me and him being split up.. Together we have talked about what we would do if it gets messy and we split up, but before it got messy and he threatened to take the girls away and I would never see them again, this was a few years back and it was completely his fault because he lied to me and turned it around on me and left. When he left I felt SO free, I had my daughter & I was 2 days away from my due date. He was gone for 2 days and came back and I just felt badly. Now it's been over a year since then and I know I love him, our relationship is so much better other then bickering/ arguing. But, it makes me feel distant and I don't know if I want this to work or not. I have mixed feelings about it. I just want to feel free again, but not hurt my children. I would like opinions, votes ect. Please be kind and no rudeness. I just don't know what to do and I have no friends anymore so I need someone to talk or maybe can relate and give me advice... Thankyou in advance.
